ClimateLine

Post by Meowser » Tue Nov 08, 2011 8:08 am

I dont know if this is a warranted complaint...

But ever since I got the hose, I went from having 0.0L of leaks to having a range of leaks... last nights was 2.8L... the night before was 10.4L...

Plus whenever the machine is on and the tube gets moved, the screen flashes saying that the ClimateLine is enabled.

I checked over the connections, they're tight and on correctly....

I'm confuzzled...

The only thing I can think of is you have a small tear in the climateline hose. Both the climateline and regular Resmed slimline tubing is notoriously flimsy.

Check the hose over very carefully, particularly near the ends where they attach to the rubber piece.

My slimline hose tore on its second night, so hubby taped it with silicone tape at the 'business ends'. Since then, I tape all my tubing as soon as I get a new one and haven't had another issue.

Cheers,
xena

The screen flashing is due to the connector coming loose (but that doesn't normally cause leaks, so that's a different issue =)

I fixed mine by placing a thin strip of duct tape on the hose connector after fitting the hose onto the machine. The strip just holds the hose in place, so it can't wiggle free. The idea is to have the tape touch both the bottom of the connector and the hose coupling itself, thus stopping it from wiggling.

Hope it helps.

I don't have that problem myself, but I think you could check for leaks at the connectors by putting some soapy water around hose/connector connection and see if if bubbles. If it leaks and is under warranty, have it replaced, if not, covering the leak with Plumber's Goop would probably seal it. http://www.plumbingsupply.com/compound.html

should be covered for 30 days.

cpap.com gave me a replacement. But you only get one replacement.

I reinforce my hose ends with F4 tape.

You positive you have the connection locked in place? I know you said you checked the connection, but just wanted to check. It should sort of snap in place when connected properly.

I use Vetwrap to wrap the ends of both our Climateline and Slimline hoses before they ever get hooked up.
This stiffens the hose to end piece connection, since I know all too well where these puppies tear.
Our current climatelines have been in use for a year now--same hose every night.
Nice thing--Vetwrap is very cheap.

Also... if you sleep one night with a regular or slimline hose and don't get the leak rate... you know you have a defective hose.

Yup sure did. It snapped. I did it a couple of times to make sure though.

I would suspect you have a leak somewhere then. Easy way to test is remove the mask, and keep the hose hooked up to the unit. Turn it on, and turn on the mask fit test (so it will blow full pressure). Plug the end of the hose that would connect to the mask, and then feel along the hose for air leaks. This is what I did the other night to find all the critter holes from our cats. The higher pressure allows them to be felt easily.

Sounds like you might have a bad electrical connection (re: the flashing ClimateLine Connected message). The leak rate shouldn't be affected unless you have a torn hose. Lots of folks here say they've had troubles with the hose cracking, etc. Mine is over a year old now and I've had no problem with it.

One caveat: If your humidifier ever runs out of water during the night, your machine will shut off and the display will (incorrectly) say something like "Replace Climate Line Hose." When, in fact, your humidifier just ran out of water. Seems silly they can't be more specific in their message.

ClimateLine Max is a great hose larger in diameter but same price. A bit more firm and less flexible is only downside. I've been using one for about 90 days now and really like it.

Well, before I went to bed lastnight, fiddled with it, checked for leaks which were none that I could hear...

Woke up this morning, checked stats for the night and low and behold 0.0L worth of leaks...

I think I'm gonna chalk it up to the fact that its a heavier hose and it may have pulled my mask alittle and I leaked around my nose.... I slept halfway on my back and side lastnight and I tightened my mask up more than normal. So I think from now on I'm gonna do that and hopefully my 0.0L leak rate returns and holds its flight pattern.

Thanks guys for your help and suggestions! You rock!

Hmmm... well, sometimes things just go unexplained. I'm glad to hear there were no holes in the line though. You may want to implement some of the reinforcements that some have suggested to help extend the life. All in all, a good ending.
