F&P HC150 Heated Humidifier anyone?

Post by Uncle_Bob » Fri Feb 03, 2012 12:32 pm

So i have purchased a Fisher & Paykel HC150 Heated Humidifier from cpap.com to go with my backup Resmed S8 Elite.
I decided to try out the backup gig the other night and it didn't go well.
I started the night out with the setting on 2.5 which is bang in the middle of the dial.
my room temperature was about 76 and humidity was very low (10-20%)
to call it rainout would be an understatement, it was more like a tsunami.

The HC150's ambient tracking does not seem to be working to prevent rainout, its definitely no better than my old H4i.

Does anyone else have this humidifier and still get rainout problems, I'm wondering if i have a faulty unit?

Also does the power cord with the ambient tracking unit unplug from the base of the humidifier?

No.

I think the Ambient Tracking part are just words. I use mine in passover now.

I don't know why they never added a heated hose to this humidifier setup? They had all the pieces n parts and use them in their cpap units. Guess they are happy where they are?

I use the F&P HC150 Heated Humidifier with my Intellipap and have used it with other machines. I like it. I use it in passive mode most of the year, but here in Canada, I use it set at just a little more than 1 during the coldest winter nights when we dip quite a bit below 0 celcius. I have not had rainout. The only time I had rainout was when I put it at 2. We have a humidifier on our furnace and try to keep the house humidity just about 40. I think that influences my F&P humidity settings.

I think it is a very sensitive humidifier and you have to find the right setting for your situation - both in terms of outside temperature as well as indoor temperature and humidity.

We have had a very mild winter here in Ontario so I still have it in passive mode most of the time this winter.

I use the HC 150 and I have mine set at about 1.6 on the dial. I know that if I set it above 2 I will get rainout. I set it at 3.5 once and I had hurricane force rain in my nose. I would imagine 5 would be like sleeping under Niagara Falls. At 1.6 i use about 1/3 of the reservoir in 8 hours. I like it as my humidifier.

I just picked up my supplies from my new DME and the tech said she has a whole bunch of them and that I was the first person in a long time who wanted one. I guess most people like their integrated ones.

I use one in passover mode. I originally tried it using the heater, but my sinuses did not like the humidity and stuffed up something awful. Oh, and I got rain out all the time. I now use the Aussie heated hose with the HC150 on passover with clear sinuses and no rain out.

Before I started using the HC150 in passover I rigged up a timer to go on/off every hour.
