AHI Element Differences

Can someone explain the differences between events reported on Sleepyhead software on Clear Airway, Obstructive, Apnea and Hypopnea?

I have a mix of them depends on the night. But my AHI last 30 days is .29..........

Last night was .11 Hypopnea and .11 Clear Airway for an AHI of .22

Great numbers.

Clear Airway Apnea index (CAI): The number of clear airway apneas that happen on average each hour. Clear airway apneas are flagged when the machine detects little or no air going into your lungs for at least 10 seconds AND the pressure pulse test indicates the airway is open (or clear).

Obstructive Apnea index (OAI): The number of obstructive apneas that happen on average each hour. Obstructive apneas are flagged when the machine detects little or no air going into your lungs for at least 10 seconds AND the pressure pulse test indicates the airway has collapsed (is obstructed).

Hypopnea index (HI): The number of hypopneas that happen on average each hour. Hypopneas are flagged when the machine detects that the airflow into your lungs has dropped significantly from the recent running baseline average. In other words, when the airflow suddenly decreases by more than 50% for a period of 10 seconds or more, the machine is likely to score a hypopnea.

If you see other terms on the reports that you are unsure what they mean there is a little Glossary that is being worked on for SleepyHead users. There are some very minor differences in a couple of definitions between ResMed and Respironics but overall the terms are universal.

I've been wondering why there seems to be no place on ResScan or SleepyHead where "Centrals" are reported.
Does this mean that even an ASV machine does not measure them?
If not, why aren't they shown?

Centrals are shown in SleepyHead. Look for CA on the top of the Event Flags graph (top right).
In the AHI index...Clear Airway Index is the Central Index.

Here is one of my reports when I used ResMed VPAP. CA on top...OA...middle.. and Hyponeas on bottom line of the top graph.

Resscan event graph shows CA with a black bar w/ open circle on top. They're also listed on the summary page.

As Pugsy and Idamtnboy said, they are reported... so since that is the case, the good news must be that since you've not seen them in your reports, you must not have had any centrals
