System One and Swift FX

Post by 1.41 » Mon Feb 27, 2012 7:17 pm

Anyone know what "resistance" pressure to set on a Philips System One when one uses a Resmed Swift FX medium sized nasal pillow?

The C-Flex has a fixed pressure and can only be changed programmatically. What did your doc prescribe and why do you want to change it?

Respironics doesn't have any set Resistance settings for non Respironics masks. Instead they say for non Respironics masks that you simply turn Resistance Setting off by setting it at 0.
If you want to try to find a similar Respironics nasal pillow and adopt its Resistance setting you could but it is not a critical issue. I tested all the Resistance settings with my Swift FX nasal pillows and felt no chance and no change in leak rate or anything else. Ended up with just turning it off. The setting has nothing to do with the leak numbers that get reported like the ResMed mask settings do.

It's not the prescribed pressure that's in issue for me here, it's the resistance pressure. Both Resmed and Philips have pressure settings that account for the differences in the different models of their masks. Philips masks have the pressure settings marked on them, and you can change the set up of the machine to permit the machine to keep the exact pressure in the mask. Since I'm using a Resmed mask on a Philips machine, I want to know the Philips equivalent for that particular Resmed mask.

This is called the "resistance pressure". See here for the explanation that Philips has published:

There's a chart somewhere here, but I can't tell you where. Try searching for "system one resistance settings". I do know it varies by size as well as type of mask. It was 4 for small size nasal pillows but felt exactly the same to me as 0.
