Mirage FX mask
Mirage FX mask
Hello,
Is there anyone who uses Resmed Mirage Fx mask? It is very comfortable but when you turn your side, it is leaking from sides.
DME provider recommended me Mirage Activa LT, it is better in leaking but little bit hard and I have some marks and sore marks on my face after I use it.
Is there anyone who uses Mirage FX mask or Activa LT who can recommend me some usage tips?
Thank you

Re: Mirage FX mask
The Activa Lt works better when you have it loose (shouldn't cause marks). The cushion inflates to prevent leaks so you can wear it quite loose.
I had trouble with leaks with the FX but many people here love them.

Re: Mirage FX mask
I agree with Elle on both the Activa LT and the Mirage FX. The Activa LT is my favorite mask. I put it on loose each night; and, by the time I am asleep, it has flexed to fit my face with few leak issues. I sometimes use the Mirage FX for an afternoon nap or for watching TV in bed. To me, it is so flimsy that I knock it loose while sleeping at night.
However, there are others that have the opposite response on both of these masks. Your own mask is a very personal issue.

Re: Mirage FX mask
Tonight I slept with Mirage FX, even slept little bit less, I feel good today.
Also my AHI was 0.7.
I watched the fitting videos on the resmed site, this helped me so much to decrease the leaks. After I go home from work, I will check the leaks from software.
By the way, last 2 nights, I am going to toilet at night, however my general condition is OK. (I was not going when I started therapy)
I am wondering if it is because I am drinking water before going to bed, or because of CPAP therapy not working. (However my AHI scores for 2 nights was 1.5 and 0.7)

Re: Mirage FX mask
Hi Burch2006, I use the Mirage FX, and alternate with the Bella Loops, the Fx does the same thing to me that it is doing for you, but, I am clostrophobic and the light feel of this mask, and the very quiet venting system allows me to get the best results I've had in 7 years. On the one side that leaks for me, which is the side I sleep on most has to be very snug, in order to prevent leaks. I do not use the pad-a-cheek strap covers because it adds to the bulk and heat factor for me. I use a cool gel core pillow from Khols it is perfect for me as I am very very restless and a tummy sleeper. I thought this pillow would be too firm, but it really adjusts after the inital 48 hours that you keep it in your bedroom and it adapts to the temperature in the room and keeps the pillow cooler than the air. I thought this claim was a bunch of hooey, but I was desperate as I have very severe spinal canal stenosis. I've never tried the gel masks, I guess I should, but I love the Mirage FX, and fear the gel mask may move too much. Good Luck my friend, and keep us posted. Oh, just to let you know my AHI's with the FX are from .02 to .04 anything else 1.4 and above. I am pressure sensitive so above 1 and I am in a FOG.

Re: Mirage FX mask
Need to urinate could be simply from the fluids you drink right before bedtime.burc2006 wrote:I am wondering if it is because I am drinking water before going to bed, or because of CPAP therapy not working. (However my AHI scores for 2 nights was 1.5 and 0.7)
Also you are male and we don't know your age but the male prostate gland may be a factor here. Even with optimal CPAP therapy and reduction in urine output from the kidneys an enlarged prostrate will present with needing to urinate more during the night.
You can try reducing fluid intake immediately prior to bedtime to see if that helps.
Consider the prostrate gland enlargement thing if you still wake up a couple times to urinate.
Your AHI of less than 2....I doubt that the need to urinate is related to suboptimal cpap therapy because that AHI is quite good. Most likely simply a fluid intake thing or prostrate involvement.

Re: Mirage FX mask
Seems it is because of drinking water before going to bed. Today after last drink I waited little and went to toilet then went to sleep and tonight no toilet need again.
I used Activa LT today and I used it with loose straps. When I checked the leaks seems no leaks.. I think Activa LT is better mask compared to Mirage FX about the leaking.

Re: Mirage FX mask
Minor prostate problems are often resolved easily with medication--even CPAP could help.
If your doc has not yet been consulted about the possibility of prostate enlargement--very important you do not delay.

Re: Mirage FX mask
I cannot decide between Mirage Fx and Mirage Activa LT. Next week, I need to select one and give the other back.
When I checked leaks both is similar however Mirage LT has excessive leaks when head belts are loose. When little bit tight, no leaks
Mirage FX has absolutely leaks, better condition with tight belts.
However Mirage FX is more comfortable, I could not get used to it yet. Especially my face sores, and very easy to have air from the nose bridge to my eyes. I need to bind more tightly
If u used both, what is your preference?

Re: Mirage FX mask
Last night I tried Activa LT mask, however could not manage to cut the leaks from my nose bridge to my eyes. I played with headbelt, the adjustment wheel, shifted the whole mask but everytime there is leakage. (When I shift the mask leak is cut but at that position lower side is very close to my upper lip)
I bet the size is not correct, I will check with DME 2 weeks later.
Mirage FX is better in feeling, no clasthophobic feeling and very light, I can barely forget that I have mask on my face.
Even there are some leakage in sidesleeping, I think I will select Mirage FX since I am not comfortable with Mirage Activa LT.
Any tips?

Re: Mirage FX mask
The Mirage does lean down on your mouth. I felt like it was going to move my teeth. Make sure you turn the dial at the forehead all the way to the left side of your face (when it is on).
I wore the Mirage very loose. Unless your pressure is very low it should inflate pretty quickly after you start.
It would be good if you got the Mirage fitted properly because sometimes the pillow masks cause sore noses and you need to have a break from them.
You will find the right one eventually. Don't give up.

Re: Mirage FX mask
Hi Elle, I sent you a PM. Maybe we can do a trade, I have several masks you can try.

Re: Mirage FX mask
You are referring to Mirage Quattro full face mask. OP is asking for feedback on Mirage FX nasal mask. (Resmed doesn't make it easy having several masks with "Mirage" in the name.)Elle wrote:The Mirage does lean down on your mouth. I felt like it was going to move my teeth. Hi Randy, I am referring to the nasal mask. I have never used a FFM.

Elle - Mirage FX nasal mask doesn't have a dial at the forehead. Only the Mirage Quattro ffm does, which is why I was confused by your post.
Unless a brand new redesigned version has come out that I haven't seen...
