Fatter Nose (after using cpap pillow)
Fatter Nose (after using cpap pillow)
Has anyone else noticed the contour of your nose growing fatter where the nasal pillows blow air in your nose (just above the nostrils) ?
I've been using the pillows for about 5 years and I can see the change. I'm using the ResMed FX and it's not tight. If I loosen the straps air leaks out.
VERY frustrating! Any solutions??

Your nose and ears continue to slightly change size and shape as you age...they are mostly cartilage which changes as it rejuvinates.

Re: Fatter Nose (after using cpap pillow)
Due to childhood allergies, my nose was frequently 'occupied', but my nostrils are still small;
(my finger went up a lot farther than a pillow ever could)
but as I age, I expect my nose to come along with the rest of my face.

Been using nasal pillows more than 12 years, and yes my nostrils have become wider. I'd rather breathe all night than distress over it.

Yes, been on cpap almost 8 years, and I might add if it's allergy season, and I tighten my pillow mask to much, I get what I call "pignose"Ha!

I'm not sure if you are male or female as it doesn't state so in your profile but be careful. It might be that "gender change" warning avi gives us men in choosing to use the nasal pillows masks.

Now THAT was funny Laser!
I was born with a bit of a piggie nose, so I guess it's no big deal for me. I like to call it my pug nose and I already adjusted to it a long time ago and way before xPAP. As long as xPAP doesn't make my nose go through a transformation similar to Michael Jackson (in reverse) it's all good...

Re: Fatter Nose (after using cpap pillow)
First, I want to thank everyone for the replies. Second, it's not age because only the sides of the nose right above the nostrils. It's like when you flare your nose, there's a small part on each side of the nose (just above the nostrils) that indent slightly when you breath .. it's slightly above that indentation.nanwilson wrote:Your nose and ears continue to slightly change size and shape as you age...they are mostly cartilage which changes as it rejuvinates.
In other words, when I use the pillows, that's the part that blows up -- and I think it's stretching the cartilage since it's been five years since I started using the pillows and it's feasible the nose would stretch if it's constantly being blown up with air.
Anyhow, my nose has become misshapen slightly (and I'm a woman) and the last thing in the world I want is to have a "treatment" that changes the contours of my nose because I like it as it is (or was) and don't want to see it grow fatter. I'm also worried about changing from pillows to a nasal mask because I like sleeping on my side with my nose pointing towards the mattress and a nasal mask would interfere or be too bulky or whatever.
I'll be getting a new sleep study soon. My doc said he prefers the Resmed FX which is what I already have. He said my nose shouldn't change, but it has. When I told him I disagree he told me it was okay to disagree with him but MY nose is at stake here! lol
Last question -- I'm new on this website so how do I get alerts when my questions are answered? Is there a specific setting for it?
Thanks!

Re: Fatter Nose (after using cpap pillow)
Three plus years now using nothing but nasal pillow mask and I don't see any change in my nose/nostril structure or size.
I do wear my nasal pillows ridiculously loose though.

I just got my new S9. I guess I'll have to mention it somewhere. I knew how to work the S8 but the S9 is a bit baffling, BUT works better, especially the humidifier!

Better a piggie nose then a decomposing nose.

Vanity can be very deadly:
I think of all the beautiful clothes in thrift shops-size zero.
I wonder what the clothes looked like that she was buried in.
I know this may be insensitive, but it's true, far too often
Eating disorders kill; and the irony is hard to ignore.
A beautiful corpse is still----a corpse.
