Buckwheat hull pillow vs feather pillow

Post by Bon Bon » Tue Oct 16, 2012 1:34 pm

I'm a side sleeper and I guess my feather pillows aren't really made for cpap masks. Since I just cannot sleep with a foam pillow, I'm considering buying a buckwheat hull pillow. I've read where several members here have had good luck with them.

My question is how do they compare to feather pillows in terms of being able to rearrange, resize, plump, smush, etc? And how comfortable are they really? Any recommendations on a good pillow would also be appreciated!

I found a great thread from a couple of years ago that has convinced me to give the Regenesis pillow a try.

I love mine!! I'm a side/stomach sleeper.

It does take a while for the hulls to quieten down though - they swish a lot at first

cheers,
xena

When I first pick up the buckwheat hull pillow it seems heavy and feels hard. When I put my head down the hulls get arranged by the weight of my head, and it becomes comfortable. I am guessing buckwheat hulls are the pillows of choice in Asian countries. Hard to think all those patients are wrong.

I have formula for laying my head down on the pillow. I fold one foam pillow against the head board. and put the second against it to be stable. I put my head down with the pillow not touching the side of the mask, and I slightly push my head forward so the straps get pulled down, rather than the mask getting pulled away from the face. I guess I am lucky in that I am one of those sleepers that does not move very much. I am convinced that those who writhe around in their sleep will live longer, in that my lack of movement will someday cause too much pressure on the lower side of my body, which will not get enough O2, and/or cause my heart to beat so hard that it will be injured.

Last night convinced me. I could not find a comfortable way to lay on my pillow that didn't cause the mask to leak...it was a long, miserable night. I'm having enough problems trying to stop mask leaks that pop up in the middle of the night without having my pillow aggravate the issue.
