What temp do you set for your heated humidifier?

Post by ughwhatname » Thu Oct 18, 2012 6:06 pm

I know mine is set at 80 degrees as a default. I just started therapy last week, so I haven't played around with that yet. Where I live, its not cold. Actually, I had the fan running most of the night. What do you find most comfortable?

I like mine at full auto with the default temperature.

The temperature controls the amount of humidity possible in the air and its comfort. If you need lots of humidity you are going to need heat whether you like it or not.

As the average temperature in the bedroom changes with the seasons,
I adjust the temperature setting to my comfort.

Normally I don't use heat in the summer.... use the chamber with a little water in "passover" mode only. This drought in the Midwest was an exception. With outside humidity ranging from the low 20's to 40% I set the machine at 2.0 so the sinus didn't dry out and give me nose bleeds. In winter the bedroom is quite cool and I don't like waking up with a freezing nose. I switch to the climate line hose and set the temp to 80.
But comfort is what you like. What others like can be a starting point for you to experiment with until you find your zone.
Have fun!
Cindy

When it gets cold and the humidity drops, I crank my humidifier all the way up to the max. No matter which machine I am using. Basically, from November thru the end of March, my humidifiers are cranked to max.

When the warm, high humidity months come, I turn it down a full point or two. During the height of the summer, from about June thru August, I might turn it down two points.

Basically, it depends upon the time of the year. Low humidity in late Fall, winter and very early spring I keep that sucker cranked up high.

One caveat: If you get too much moisture into your sinuses, you may trigger a nasal drip down the back of your throat. In my case, I liked the warm moisture but the constant drip-drip-drip caused me to get two medium intensity bouts of lung congestion, both of which lasted about a week (similar to a cold but with no other symptoms like high temps or sneezing). I'm now back to a middle zone of humidity and the lung thing hasn't come back since.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I have changed mine several times in the first 6 months. I had to experiment with the humidity and I find that 5 works for me. I still get dry mouth sometimes, but I think it is worse if I am sleeping on my back as my mouth opens wider. I use a full face mask, so my therapy is not hurt. I do try to sleep on my side as much as possible.

I was up to 80 on the temp, then lowered it to 75. Then, on a trip, I lowered it to 72, and I realized in the middle of the night that it seemed cold last night. The weather is getting colder, so I will up it a few degrees. I do NOT use the default settings as I have major dry mouth that way.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?

In your case, you might want to turn off the humidifier and use the passover mode. Just leave water in the tank so the air passes over it and picks up a little moisture...but no heat.

It is Fall out and the humidity finally dropped into the fifty percent range. Last night I cranked up the humidifier to the max and will leave it that way until late March or perhaps mid April. I find with my humidifier set too low, I tend to get higher leaks. Ive found highly humidified air helps me get a better mask seal at the mask cushion. Moist latex seals against the skin better than dry latex.

Except for a couple of times when I first started out (over seven and a half years ago), I've always used "passover" humidification (as LSAT described), year-round. When the temperatures get colder, I pull the hose under the covers and run it along my body to warm it up a bit. I live in a fairly cool, dry climate (Rocky Mtns.) and the passover mode picks up enough water vapor to keep my nasal passages humidified. Works great for me.

I've found that 82 deg. works for me. Any less and I get a sore throat. I would prefer cooler air but then the humidity would be lower.

I have my climate controled hose set at max 86. I will probably leave it that way for months since I like a cold room and don't want any rainout. I find that the extra moister is great for my nasal congestion.

65F during the summer.

Currently have it turned up to about 78F since it's getting cooler at night and I haven't turned the heat on (so the bedroom gets down to a nice and pleasant 60-65F).
