How to open and read SD card files ?

Post by aben » Fri Nov 30, 2012 10:45 am

When I try to open and read my SD card I get the error message "windows unable to open this file because it doesn't know what program to use". when searching for a program there are sites that offer registry scan tools and other programs such as Maestro or there are so called free ones like joiner for split files. Before I mess with the registry, I would like to know if someone could suggest the best way to do this. These are .002 files. I would like to see what exactly is on the SD card before I send it to the RT or sleep doc. I download the card everyday to SH and Encore basic. I would also like to know if it is possible to send a DVD of my whole Encore program with 8 months of data on it. I am using: PRS1 auto bipap 750, SH, Encore basic, Win 7, 64.
Thanks,
aben

The data stored on the SD card by your xpap can only be read by the software designed to read. I have a ResMed machine and use ResScan to read the data. If you were able to open and look at the actual files on the data card it wouldn't be something that would make sense. That's why you use the appropriate software designed to read data from your machine and diaplay in a way we can understand.

Also you need to ask your sleep doctor if you can send him/her dvd with all the data. I doubt anyone here will know if your doctor is set up to pull data from a dvd.

My doc is happy with paper "hard copies". He says only the DME has the software.
Since I bought the last 2 machines sans DME, I have the software.
I feel we have established ourselves as partners to the doctor.
I'm OK providing him with my data in a form that can go directly into my file,
allowing him to save his time for really sick patients.

Download and install Sleepyhead.
Create your patient profile with as much or as little information as you want.
Click on the "Import" button and browse to the SD card. DO NOT go any further than the root folder.
Click on OK.
When in doubt, open the case. Remember: If you can't open it, you don't own it!

Prescribed APAP range - 6-10 cm/H2O, titrated at 8.
Current range - 9.0-11.5 cm/H2O - still searching for the magic "zero night" but averaging 2.2 AHI

Most doctors or DMEs will only use the manufacturer's official software. This software will only read from the SD card or via modem.

Be sure to copy the data from your SD card to your PC. Create a directory with a name like "CPAPDATA", create a directory with today's date under that, and then copy the P-Series folder into that directory. SleepyHead will read the data from your PC. I think Encore basic will only be able to read the saved data if you copy it back to another SD card, or (maybe) a thumb drive.

Your doctor or RT is probably not going to have any idea what to do with a DVD of your data. It won't work with Encore unless they copy it to an SD card, and that's probably not the way they do things.

PRS1 machines will hold many months maybe years of full data. I don't think they ever erase data. If the card fills up, it just fills up and you'll have to erase it.
