natural remedies
I have really bad sinus congestion,my head, forehead and face hurt so much. My doctor an ent prescribed omnaris and I'm also using Hydrasense. Doc says it will take up to six weeks before I feel better. I can't wait that long. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: natural remedies
I see you use a nasal mask. Some nasal mask-folks here use a full face mask as a back up when the sinus gets plugged... then go back to the nasal when the sinus issue is gone or under control. For the record, I'd love to use a nasal mask, but my septums are deviated...

Also, if you're running a humidifier on high, turn it down - it can often congest if it's not needed and should only be used for personal comfort - it's not 'therapy' in itself.
Ghost Pepper
This will clear your sinuses real quick

Its called the ghost pepper. I just got this bottle in today from an ebay vendor. I tried it on my chicken salad I was having for dinner and I felt as I could breathe fire.
I started eating hot peppers years ago to deal with constant headaches. It would numb the pain away a little bit.

The Naga Bhut Jolokia is a chili pepper previously recognized by Guinness World Records as the hottest pepper in the world. The pepper is also known as Naga Jolokia, ghost pepper, ghost chile pepper, red naga chilli, and ghost chile.
In 2007, Guinness World Records certified that the Bhut Jolokia was the world's hottest chili pepper, 10,000 times hotter than Tabasco sauce;
I tried Sinus Buster years ago. Its a sinus spray with peppers. You are basically putting pepper spray up your nose

Some drug stores like Walgreens carries them. They even have a money back guarantee.
If you don’t find Sinus Buster to be the most effective nasal spray you have ever used, we will refund your money.

A hot cup of tea with teaspoon of lemon juice and a tablespoon of honey. Cover up with extra blankets in an easy chair and sweat it out. I'll add a touch of bourbon for myself.

Cosmo,
I keep Sinus Buster handy and have used it quite a few times. I find it is good for opening up badly clogged passages. It does it in just a couple of seconds. It seems to cause your passages to produce a sudden volume of clear liquid that forces the gummy stuff out.
But if you have a cold or bad allergies they will clog again quickly. Sudafed works for about 10 hours but causes insomnia in many people.

Re: natural remedies
I am probably repeating some of what you have already read here, fluids, nasal spray, upping opr lowering the humidifier, etc. I do most all that what was suggested here with the addition of the following:
I have really awful sinuses so I keep a hydroculator pack (the kind you use for your back) on hand. You should be able to purchase at local drug store, talk to the pharmacist, they should be able to help you. Best kind is the ones you boil on the stove, but if not available I have used the microwaveable when necessary. Heat the pack, use a towel on your face as a barrier between you and hot pack, then lay down on sofa or lounging chair & apply to your upper face, around the nasal & sinus area. This should open your sinuses, Assuming you are doing all the things in the previous posts, adding this will help those sinuses drain. Do this several times daily. At least twice in the evening before bed.
An alternative is a steam bath, using a pot of boiing water - if you do this be very very careful. To do a steam bath, boil the water in a regular size sauce pan, the remove from stove, using a towel to 'tent' around the face, breath the steam. You can add some ecualaptis oil to the water after boiled for further effect (don't boil with the ecualaptis oil in the pan first, it looses it strength). Be careful not to burn your face, just get enough steam to make the sinuses open & drain.
These are my 'home remedies' for bad sinuses. Hope you feel better soon!

Re: natural remedies
I'm going to pick up a bottle and try it out again. I tried it when it first came out and I do remember that I did have positive results. The pepper sensation only lasted a short while.Judge Nap wrote:Cosmo,

Re: natural remedies
Both of the things your dr gave you should help, maybe quicker than you think.
In the short term, both Sudafed (or generic pseudoephedrine) and Mucinex together can work wonders in the short term, if you can tolerate them.

Re: natural remedies
I support the idea of Sinus Buster - works well. Also, a sinus rinse with a neti pot a few hours before you go to bed. Follow the instructions carefully, and make sure the water is not too hot. It sounds gross, and it can be if you really have congestion. But it does clear the tubes!

Re: natural remedies
When I had a sinus infection, my doctor suggested heat; so I made a fabric sinus mask full of rice.
A little 'nuking', and the pain would be much better.

Also use boiled, purified or distilled water for neti pots. There was a bout of people dying after using neti pots from bacteria in their tap.

Re: natural remedies
There have been somewhere around 5 or 6 Naegleria deaths linked to nasal irrigation in the past 30 years. Note that only one death in that article was related to nasal irrigation. You're probably more likely to die in a car crash going to the store to buy the distilled water than to die from Naegleria.cosmo wrote:Also use boiled, purified or distilled water for neti pots.
