CPAP Mask Wipes

Post by Wharfrat » Mon Dec 24, 2012 4:00 pm

I'd like to start cleaning the silicon cushion every day. I've been using a gentle soap and cloth which works well. I thought that cleansing wipes would simplify and speed up the process. I get up at 4:00 AM each day so the quicker the better. The CPAP wipes that I see on the internet come out to just under .20 each. Does anyone here use wipes that are appropriate for this that are less expensive.
BTW. Thank you but I don't need suggestions on other cleaning methods. I have perused the forum and have those to consider already. Now I need more info on the wipes.
Thank you

What you could do is get a second cushion or second mask. Alternate mask.

Clean the mask in the evening and let it air dry until the next day. You're just throwing money away with those wipes.

I like unscented baby wipes; (store brand are very cheap)
I can use them on my face, too.
Freshly wiped, both skin and silicone get a little sticky--helps with the seal.
I used to wash my Swift FX pillows every day, and they barely made it to 3 weeks.
On vacation, I used the baby wipes, and found the silicone didn't go to pot nearly as soon.

You didn't read Warfrat's message...he said he did not want other suggestions. He just wanted to know about wipes.

I've seen posts that some people use baby wipes that are for sensitive skin -- no lotions, perfumes, etc. I don't recall exact names/brands, but one of them was a CVS pharmacy brand and another was a Pampers brand. And then those are usually big enough to be cut in half as well, to go further; it doesn't take all that much to wipe off nasal pillows. The CVS brand apparently went on sale a lot and had coupons a lot, so was stocked up on by whomever posted about it often at a real cheap price, though I don't remember the final cost per wipe. Something to consider though.

I understand where you're coming from on speed and convenience, and everybody should be able to make their own choice without being told their choice is not right for whatever reason. While I was using the Swift FX nasal pillow mask, I was using mask wipes too. Quick and easy peasy to wipe off the pillows in the morning.

You're still throwing money away with those wipes.

Get a tiny spray bottle, make your own solution and wipe away with paper towels.

I use Pampers Thick Wipes for sensitive skin. You can use the generic brand, but read the ingredients and make sure the wipes do not contain alcohol or aloe. The alcohol will eat up the mask silicone and the aloe will leave a film. There is a Walgreens near where I work that sell the cpap wipes, but they run out of stock rather quickly. I use the Pampers wipes when Walgreens is out of stock and I need some wipes. I will also wipe my lens down and I use a wash rag to make sure it doesn't streak. Bin' doin' it for a few years. On Saturdays, I scrub and soak the mask in baby shampoo.

I use the citrus ii wipes. I pull a short amount out of the dispenser and cut a 2" wide strip off and use that to wipe. One container lasts a long while.

Thank you all for your help.
I have good suggestions to continue my quest.
One additional question....if i get generic wipes that do not contain alcohol and aloe.....what about other ingredients? These products do have some other stuff in them.

Your mileage may vary.....the ones I first chose were labeled "alcohol, scent and aloe free" but my pillows only lasted three weeks! I switched to the unscented mask wipes and have been using the same pillow for 4 months and am cleaning them right now to use again tonight
