Noticed.. mask is 'farting' noises! :)

Post by Lugnut » Sun Feb 24, 2013 9:58 am

HAHA!

Well it's been almost 4 weeks now of using the CPAP. I've lost 5lbs. I haven't changed anything else. I have a few friends who I haven't seen in since I've used it and they'd said my face looks thinner. Which I have noticed as well as my wife.

Last few nights the mask has been leaking aroud my cheeks. Making these odd noises! haha So I guess I have to tighten up my straps!

Oh darn right!

I have also noticed, that I close my mouth more now when I sleep. I wake up a bit and notice my mouth is closed.. I have a hard time breathing through my nose. So I hope that doesn't affect my sleep. I've yet to sleep through out the night with the machine, but I am doing much better than I was that is for sure.
My wife says I am silent at night. No snoring or anything!

The snoring should stop. The cpap air is keeping you wind pipe open... so no snoring. The farting noise is air leaking. At night some folks face will relax and the mask will start leaking. The mask should "float" on your face. When I start my machine, my mask will lift slightly off my face. If it doesn't.... its too tight. The Quattro is a very popular mask, but it seems to either work or it doesn't. There is a video called "taming the Quattro". I'll catch heck for saying this, but I also can leak around my cheeks. At night, I will slightly open my mouth and my cheeks and they will inflate and allow a seal around my cheeks.

In many cases the mask will seal when you go to bet, but early in the AM when you have been using the mask for several hours, your facial muscles relax and the mask may start to 'fart'. Be sure that you are positioning the mask properly. Check out....

Since you have noticed that you are breathing more via your nose ( waking to closed mouth) it means that your natural sleeping inclination of nasal breathing is returning. It seems you may consider a nasal type mask too ... in the future...as more weight comes off. As your neck size gets closer to 16'5"; look into this. These types of masks have less facial contact and will not "fart" as much. Also, it seems that you have facial hair in your pic....and the nasal mask will seal better.

You're sure you have the right cheeks?

Wonder if tucking one of those Beano tablets into a full face mask would reduce how often that happens?

Try Pad-A-Cheek Anti-Leak strap. I totally stopped face farts for me.
