Best Mouth Guard For the TAP-PAP

Post by kong » Fri May 17, 2013 9:36 pm

I use a TAP-PAP when I'm not using my Mirage Quattro Full Face Mask. I like the TAP-PAP, however, I have a problem with leaks. A chin strap has not helped. I wanted to know if any person has tried using a mouth guard for the lower teeth with a TAP-PAP to physically block air from coming in and out of the mouth. With the TAP-PAP mouthpiece blocking the top half of the mouth and the other mouthpiece blocking the bottom of the mouth, it sounds like it may work. I've tried taping my mouth, but the tape comes off. I'm not willing to use super strong tape due to safety concerns. Has anyone tried using a lower jaw mouthpiece while using the TAP-PAP. How did it work? Does anyone have any suggestions as to brands of mouthguards?

I think I understand what you are trying to do but the presence of another bite guard on the lower teeth is unlikely to prevent the lips from parting and jaw from dropping and thus mouth coming open. I don't believe that the 2 mouth guards will stop the air movement because they can't seal that well.

If you want to try it then WalMart has a boil and fit mouth guard in the sports section that is super cheap or a more expensive model in the dental hygiene aisle called Doctor's Advanced Comfort guard...and I think a different brand that I forget the name.

Just how bad are the mouth leaks with the Tap Pap? All night long or short lived? Wake you up?
I know that I probably have a few mouth breathing episodes occasionally but they are short lived and don't wake me up so I choose to not worry about them. They rarely even get to large leak territory.

I keep having more and more mouth leaks with Tap Pap and they do wake me up repeatedly. I tape the corners of my mouth, but that doesn't really help. I really want to figure out how to stop this annoying mouth leaks.
