where to get 1 quart/liter of distilled water

Post by sandiego » Fri Sep 27, 2013 12:07 pm

I am wondering if anyone know where to buy a one quart/liter of distilled water. I am traveling next month and will get in too late to get to a pharmacy. I would like to put a small bottle of distilled water into my checked baggage. Anyone know where I can get one? I haven't been able to find it anywhere.

It might be easier to ask a hotel concierge to have water ready in your room.
You pay for it; but sometimes it's worth it.

Buy a bottle of water (drinking), consume or otherwise empty it, and fill with distilled water.

Also, using distilled water only prevents mineral build-up ... it's not a health issue. So you can use bottled or even tap water for a short time and never notice it.

When I am traveling, I just use a regular bottle of drinking water and give my humidifier a good clean when I get home. No worries about finding distilled, regular bottled works fine.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

I am with chunkyfrog - when I travel and arrive late i ask the hotel to have some for me. I do the same when I travel internationally as I find it difficult in some countries to explain what I am looking for at a store. In a pinch I use bottled water.

I use hotel bottled water when I travel and when at home I use Ozarka spring water with the red label and I watch for the best price
one store had the 3 liter bottles for 10 for $5.00 I have used about 80 or so of these or buy 1 liter bottles at the best price.
What I don't use I drink when its on my nite table. Really bad stuff. It has a little mineral in it but not as much as some of the other brands
of filtered lake water. I have Two tanks and run them in the top of the dishwasher and its works for my tank machines. My Bi-pap has 18000 plus hours
and neither of us has fallen yet. I love these water post because of the supposed need for perfectly sterile water

Go to a local REI store and buy a 1 liter Platypus. It is a plastic container made from a plastic film that lies flat until filled. It is used by backpackers to carry water. They come in various sizes from 1/2 liter to 2 liters. Buy the one with a regular cap and not the sip top like some water bottles have. I have been using them for years with no problem. I just fill one up from a gallon jug before I leave. I do put it in a gallon freezer bag just in case there is some leakage which has never happened and I do allot of traveling. They are almost indestructible. When I first got one I filled it and stood on top and it held me and I'm no lightweight.

I use a lightweight stainless steel water bottle in my checked luggage--won't leak or break. You only need enough for the first night.

As others have pointed out, it won't hurt to use tap water for a short period of time, but I don't like thinking about breathing what's in tap water. So I prefer to use distilled if at all possible.

Fill a 32 oz Nalgene with distilled water at home and when going through the check point tell them it's a medicinal liquid or medically required.

I use filtered water. While I have several back packing filters, my favorite is tbe Katydyne with silver impregnated ceramic filter. With this filter your water source does not matter. Tap, out of mudhole, urine or whatever. I removes all particulants down to two microns which is about the size of a water molecule. It even removes radioactive ash from an atomic bomb fall out.

At home I fill 2 liter bottles with tap water and let sit open a few days until the chlorine treatment smell dissapates then pour it into whatever urn style water filter I found on sale last time I needed one. With my Katydyne I have filtered water less than 100 feet from a floating dead cow. At home now using a Brita that looks like a coffee pot with filter on top. Pour my aged tap water into jug then from jug to humidifier.

I use filtered water from the Vending Machines and only had build up with the Non Cleanable Humidifiers. Never, ever, ever have used distilled in 9 years of Treatment.

If you use anything other than distilled water, dump the water out and wash the tank every morning. Dry it well, leave it open, and only fill just before bed.

Anyone want to open a business with me? After we get off the ground you will be able to find 12oz bottles of distilled water in the medical department of every major retailer in the US for only $134.99 each.

Oh, and of course we will accept Obamacare.

When I travel in the states, I normally just use tap water in the hotel. Sometimes I bother to buy a bottle of distilled water when I get there, but only if I'm already going to the store for other supplies, and only if I'm staying in the room for a considerable time - like a week. Quite honestly, I have had no problems using tap water, and my chamber has not been adversely affected.

For peace of mind, clean your humidifier chamber well when you get home.

I'm planning my first overseas trip, and I've heard that drinking the tap water is a bad idea there. I'll probably invest in bottled water when I get there both for drinking and use in my humidifier.

Cheers,
B.
