Okay, I've had my cpap for about 3 years. Really no problems. But the other night I must not have been sleeping very well, because I kept waking up, my mask was all over the place and at one point it felt like it was pushing against my upper teeth and it hurt. I woke up the next morning and the tip of my nose and the cartilage between my nostrils was so sore! It lasted almost all day, but by night when I put my mask on, it was just a small discomfort. Woke up the next morning, all was fine. That night, it started hurting again, even before I put the mask on. Strange. This morning my nose felt fine, even when I pushed on it, but just now (about 4 hours later) I went to blow my nose and the pain was intense. It feels like that cartilage is bruised. I don't know if that's even possible, but it's gotta be something!
Anyone ever had this happen?
Nose Cartilage Bruising?

Like you, I've on cpap awhile and yet do have the occasional difficult night. For me, it's usually bridge of nose issues. Cartilage is connective tissue and doesn't have as much circulation as the rest of your nose...which certainly can bruise. If it resolves in a day, I'd just count myself lucky and maybe re-adjust my mask. Headgear can stretch and some tightening may solve the mask instability.
Take care,
Jamis

I've had the part between my nares get sore if my mask rides up too far. Usually that's a sign the upper straps are too tight... but it can also happen if the pillow pushes my mask up.
It sounds like your situation is more severe than mine. I don't have a solution except to try fine-tuning your straps.

The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.

In my case, any unusual pain or discomfort in the nares or upper lip could be a nascent cold sore.
I get this little warning, which gives me lead time on stopping it short with a course of valacyclovir.
I hope you don't get a cold sore--they are so nasty--I've had them since I was a kid.
