I think you meant 'Cleaning the actual humidifier", as you cannot really access the inside of the machine. Anyhow, yes you need to periodically clean it out, especially if you see any pinkish residue in there, or any of any color, probably every few days or so. But don't use strong soap, etc., as there was only distilled water in there to begin with, but do use e.g. Q-tips if necessary and/or diluted white vinegar, and rinse well afterward.

I have wiped out the inside of the humidifier with a damp microfiber cloth; likewise to the outside of everything else.
It's all I consider necessary.

Yes. The best way is to add 2 tablespoon of white vinegar to the filled humidifier and let it sit for 1/2 hours, dump it and rinse well.Ruinednose wrote:IS it ok to clean the inside of the humidifier of the machine,?

The tank only. Don't get water near the machine itself, that is hard on it and your DME will not fix it for free.Ruinednose wrote:IS it ok to clean the inside of the humidifier of the machine,?

I wash everything in a neutral dish soap (one of those "green" ones), using a brush that is used ONLY for CPAP cleaning, tank, hose, mask, headgear, foam filter. A NEW toothbrush for nooks and crannies, then a hot (as hot as the tap water, no need to get the kettle going) rinse, Go outside and sling the hose around like one of those noisemakers to get the water out of it, and put it all in the dish drainer.
Keeps everything sweet and no nasty black or pink fuzz growing in there.
Which reminds me, gotta go wash my stuff!
Good luck...

Since you have a PRS1 machine, you can remove the water tank, open it up, and clean it in the dishwasher.
Spare tanks are pretty cheap. Get one when your insurance will pay for it, usually 6 months. Once a week or so, clean one tank and let it sit dry for a week or so.
If you use only distilled water, you don't need to clean it as often. I dishwash mine once a week as long as it doesn't get dirty or start smelling. If you use tap water, dump it out every morning.
