tap pap and bruxism

Post by filovirus » Sat Jan 11, 2014 10:30 pm

Hello!

I currently wear a quattro air mask and I use a bruxism guard. My guard is around 4 years old and I suspect it will need to be replaced this year. Does anyone have any experience using the tap pap to kill two birds with one stone. How long will the tap pap mouthpiece hold up to teeth grinding?

Thanks,
filovirus

Depends on how much pressure you put on your teeth. The TapPap doesn't have the lower jaw covered, so I do have to use a chinstrap. I have gotten more than 6 months use out of mine, but I think my mouth still opens a bit, or I have leaks from some other cause ...

I am not so worried about mouth leaks. I seem to keep my jaw clenched most of the night. My guard fits on my upper teeth and has a gutter the bottom teeth fit into. I was more curious about anyone with experience wearing the mouth portion down with grinding/clenching. A new guard will cost me around 300-400 out of pocket, so this could be an option if it can last a year or so or if the mouth portion is a replaceable part.

Thanks,

filo

I don't know how much experience is available using the Tap Pap guard by people who also grind their teeth and even if there was some experience to draw upon it is going to be relative to how much pressure is used during the grinding process.

The mouth guard is an easily replaceable part though.

The Tap Pap was just released last March. So long term life of the mouth guard itself is still up for grabs whether bruxism is involved or not.

I grind my teeth, as a matter of fact have broken two because of it. The mouth guard on the tap pap does help and I have been using mine since about May. Once it gets kinda chewed up I just do the hot water thingy all over again and it straightens right out. I would recommend it... certainly a lot cheaper than your bite guard.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.
