Make headpiece covers

Post by Opal_city » Sun Jan 12, 2014 8:32 pm

My husband needs a CPAP machine and the latex head piece irritates his skin. So I have been making him covers and I thought I'd share in case it helps anyone else.

You'll need:
Sewing machine & thread
Buttonhole foot
Scissors
Soft material (I used flannel or terry cloth)
Button the size of the plugs
Paper & pen/ marker

Pad-a-Cheek... they work. What you did is cool, but I worry that they might cause leaks being relatively thick... Btw, there is no 'headpiece' per se, just a mask (frame) and cushion with "headgear" (straps and clips). I mention it because it confused me ... wasn't sure what you were referring to (I'm slow a lot .

Padacheek is relatively expensive to replace, I thought this would be helpful for someone on a budget (like me). They don't leak because they are not connected to the air tube at all, just the headpiece.

You've confused me even more (and I've been on Cpap x 8 yrs, and on the forum almost as long). Just what are you referring to by "the head piece"? And I don't understand your reference to the hose in terms of leakage. I'm referring to leakage from around the edges of the mask, the cushion part.

Hi Opal....How very sweet of you to post this for anyone who it might work for. However I think it might be confusing to some, as there are so many different headgears out there. May I ask which one your husband has so as to clairfy which headgear this will work with?

Thank You,

Janice

If you click on the link you will see that it is for what I also call the head piece. It is the part of the mask that touches the forehead.

The item made is a furry fleece liner for the forehead rest--can't place the brand or model--but I've seen them before.
I used a similar fabric to make a strap liner for the left side of my full face mask.
This furry fleece might be too thick for a cushion liner, but works quite well to pad a strap or the forehead rest.
DIY is always a possibility--especially if your money is already tied up with the mask and machine.
Pad-a-cheek uses different weight fabrics, each appropriate to their use.
