Can any ol' SD card be used to capture sleep data?
Can any ol' SD card be used to capture sleep data?
I dropped the SD card that I've been using (aka the one that came with the a-pap.)
Our hosts have the best price for a replacement: $15 for a no-name 4 GB card.
When I tried some of my SDHC cards, the a-pap tried by couldn't recognize it.
[I just realized when typing it that the “HC” part might have been the problem.]
So – can I use a “plain” SD card to capture my SleepyHead data?
Or must I use an “Official-Sleep-Apnea” data card?
Thank you!

But glad to be back here

Re: Can any ol' SD card be used to capture sleep data?
Plain SD cards will work. I just bought two 2MB ones from Walmart online for about $6.00 each and they worked fine on my Respironics machine. Some CPAP machines can tolerate SDHC cards but some, like yours, don't seem to. The low capacity SD cards are getting harder to find as the newer crop of digital cameras, etc. are creating larger and larger images.

I found really inexpensive sd cards at Big Lots.
A good place for slightly dated electronics, but if you wander into the grocery section,
don't go while hungry and read the dates.

Since the picture of your equipment shows a Devilbiss unit, please be aware that they do not accept 4G cards. I found this out the hard way after I paid for a 4G card.
Regular format 1G and 2G cards work just fine, but the SmartLink unit does not know how to handle the addressing on a 4G or larger format.

Re: Can any ol' SD card be used to capture sleep data?
THANKS, Y'ALL!
ooops.
Plenty of necessary info here.
(making list:)
-- plain *low* capacity SD cards
-- widdle baby ones -- 1 or 2 G only
-- BigLots or Wallmart
-- they *are* very hard to find online & way more expensive then HC
wish me luck: it's not as much fun when you can't see you little charts in the morning

Re: Can any ol' SD card be used to capture sleep data?
ResMed and Philips Respironics machines seem to accept any SD or SDHC card above 1 GB. I don't know of anyone who's tried an SDXC card yet.
One of the manufacturers says that a standard SD card won't necessarily provide the spacings required for electrical safety regulations. i.e. if you touch the card with power on, the air gap between live electrical components to your finger isn't as large as regulations require. The cards they sell are made by other manufacturers, but have been verified to have the necessary electrical safety spacings.

Re: Can any ol' SD card be used to capture sleep data?
The SD card standards are backward compatible. That is the SD card slot in the S9 and PR S1 systems can handle SDHC cards. I doubt (based on when both were developed) they were designed for SDXC cards. So, you can put in SD or SDHC cards into those slots. However, I would tend to stick with the card that came with the machine. If you have problems with a machine and a non-standard card is in the unit, the manufacturer can get ugly about using non-standard components.

I put a canon camera SD card in mine and it worked fine. It's all windows compatible.

I replaced a lost SD card for my PR system 1 auto bipap (the most recent one, 760) and was able to replace it with no problem with the SD card below, as verified by Sleepyhead and Encore. I did format it in Encore before using:

Re: Can any ol' SD card be used to capture sleep data?
Thank you for a plethora of options.
While checking out mellabella's site for a Sandisk, I got a popup alerting cheapy me to a cheaper option:
http://www.oempcworld.com/Merchant2/mer ... ode=026200
Sandisk 2 GB for $5.95 w/free shipping if you order $10.
They had another brand for $4.85 for 2 gigs.
The site looks interesting for other things -- esp as I just bought an older iMac & will prolly want to add Ram.
thanks again!

Re: Can any ol' SD card be used to capture sleep data?
I used an old 16MB card (yes, MB not GB) with Devilbiss SmartLink. The recordings are summary only, no waveform and are very small.

Re: Can any ol' SD card be used to capture sleep data?
FYI - I just checked my SD card that came with my 960P ASV machine.
I have about 6 months of data on it having missed only a couple of days worth of wave data.
The card is a 2 GB SD card and the total data space used is about 45 MB so it looks as if it could contain about 25 years worth of data.

Re: Can any ol' SD card be used to capture sleep data?
Just had an interesting experience with my DME Apria. I called to check about which card to use for my machine(still a Medicare rental) and they are sending me one for free, no cost even to Medicare. I asked.
