Talking in my sleep

Post by RobertinTX » Mon Mar 10, 2014 10:35 am

I have been a CPAP use for about 16 years.
I'm currently using C-Flex with a pressure of 12.
Lately I woken myself up talking in my sleep. It's not every night.
Is this something I should be concerned about ?
It happens mostly when I'm dreaming about someone and am trying to talk with them.
It makes me nervous but I go back to sleep.
Again, is this cause for concern ?

From what I've read it's not that uncommon.
Sleep talking may be brought on by stress, depression, fever, sleep deprivation, day-time drowsiness, alcohol, and fever. In many instances sleep talking runs in families, although external factors seem to stimulate the behavior. Sleep talking often occurs concurently with other sleep disorders such as nightmares, confusional arousals, sleep apnea , and REM sleep behavior disorder.

I have talked in my sleep on occasion. Recently, during a nightmare while yelling "help" in my dream, it physically came out of my mouth and woke me up. My husband talks in his sleep occasionally, usually when he's having a work dream - which could be attributed to the stress aspect. There were times I would respond to him and he would carry on a conversation with him fully asleep.

Do you keep up with your data to see if the therapy is effective?

I think we all do that from time to time.... maybe had a heavy dinner or late night snack and its disturbing your sleep. My daughter has told me that I do the same thing in my sleep, says she tried answering me one time and I started yelling at her... ... don't remember a thing!

I also woke up talking in my sleep and I don't know that there was much info provided when I asked the same question. I will say that many times I had dry mouth etc. I tried the tape and it didn't work well for me (I would wake up wondering why I couldn't open my mouth!). I got a tight chin strap and since then, no dry mouth, no waking up talking and the best...I feel much more awake and rested! The chin strap allows me to cough when I need to, but apparently, my mouth doesn't "fall" open anymore.

If you want to know exactly what you say contact the NSA and they will have a recording of it. Do not sleep with someone who has a lower security clearance than you or you will be waterboarded at guantanomo,

Parkinson's is known for "acting your sleep". It's usually more than just talking. Example: {shouting} " Have you seen him holding a knife in his hand"?. Also, falling off the bed on the floor, and screaming for help.

Where do you get your info Avi... you have no idea what Parkinson's is like. My brother has parkinson and functions very well with no symptoms like you think.

Have you added or changed any medications lately.
Some meds make you more susceptible to talking in your sleep.

Unless you have a security clearance, and are prive to national secrets, odds are the mikes we planted in your bedroom, wont all us to profit from your pillowtalk.

However, the wife may get some info out of you she can use at a later date. Maybe you should learn a unused language, so you can sleep secure. Jim

My wife has been diagnosed with Parkinsonism, and she began sleep talking, screaming out, and at times leaping out of bed in her sleep for a couple of years before the more obvious symptoms developed. The neurologist prescribed Clonazepam which almost eliminated the sleep symptoms. Perhaps you should discuss this with a doctor.
