Padacheek

Post by alpha752 » Thu Mar 27, 2014 9:15 am

I just want to say how awesome padacheek liners are! I have been having trouble with leaks on my Mirage Quattro FFM because of face grease and drool. I got a padacheek last week and it is fantastic! So much more comfortable then raw silicone on your face. Even after using the liner for a while, a couple of times I have tried the mask with out it, just to see, and I always end up putting the padacheek back on. I did have to cut the opening a little wider to make room for my big mouth, but now it's perfect.

I do want to try a Sleepweaver Anew fabric mask at some point (if anyone has one they don't want let me know), but otherwise I'm much happier with my FFM thanks to padacheek.

(This post is in no way sponsored or otherwise related to padacheek, I'm just a happy customer and wanted to share.)

Yep, Karen at Padacheek makes good well thought out liners at a fair price

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

noddinoff, are you using a liner with the Quattro FX? I tried using my new Padacheek liner with my FX last night and could not overcome some tiny but irritating leaks into the eyes. I could get it set OK, but a minor movement would cause the issue again. Will keep trying...

Even a tiny amount of air in my eyes is a deal breaker and I find I can get that with or without Karen's Padacheek liners. I've been using these blackout goggles for about a year and like them. NOTE: Some people with smaller faces report that they don't fit. Not cheap but worth it IMO:

Something to try (if you haven't already) is to slide the upper strap on the headgear back to the top rear of your head before you tighten everything. This helps me get a good seal at the top of the fx as it pulls the mask back rather than up. You can add a vertical strap or piece of tape to tether the two straps together to keep the top one back.

I just bought my padacheek liner for my Quattro FX and fond that I couldn't get a seal at all...and haven't used it.

Any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! The fabric feels great but leaks galore....

Are you able to get a good seal without the liner?

Hi Kennerly--yes, I can get a good seal without the liner except that my nose is pretty flat and I get leaks around my nose bridge a lot (particularly when my pressure is higher in the middle of the night) and wakes me up. I was hoping that the Padacheek liner would help "pad' My nosebridge to stop leaks from happening but I can't get my entire mask to seal with the Padacheek.

What am I doing wrong? So many positive reviews from others--but doesn't work at all for me. Any ideas?

How much pressure are you dealing with?

My first thought would be to go for a better seal over your nose by manipulating the headgear as I mentioned above. I'd do this first without the liner so you can better tell how you are dong.

Then once it's all hunky dory try it again with the liner. At the top of the Pada I've been taping the "widows peak" with a thin 2-3" strip that arches across the fabric at the top and down the sides a little. If you do this add the tape so that it won't interfere with exhaust holes and won't touch your skin. The point is to get a little better control over how the fabric lays at the bridge of your Nose. Hope some of this helps.

Thanks kennerly! I'm gonna fiddle around with my headgear as you suggested. I can imagine a better seal on my nose but will the gear straps shift forward again? I guess I will know tonight!

You all have encouraged me to give Padacheek another try...

For me the upper strap would try to creep back to its original position. If you find a particular angle that helps with the seal, then you can run a piece of tape from the center of the upper strap to the center of the lower to keep thongs in place. (The tape would run up the back of your head perpendicular to both straps.)

Hi mint0101. You're not specifically doing anything wrong, it's just that people's results tend vary to a large degree when it comes to CPAP. The important thing about Padacheek liners is that they don't completely eliminate leaks - however they do seem to control them to a manageable degree, both flow-wise and noise-wise. Once you grasp that concept you can adjust your expectations and plan how to use the Padacheek liners. Think of a muffler on a car, only it sits on your face... maybe not a good analogy

I may be cranky due to my machine issues but I don't understand why the mask manufacturers make it necessary to buy products like these. I'm glad that there are entrepreneurial and innovative people like Karen who make these products available, but really? Obviously, the mask manufacturers know there is need for a better design as they are even including some not very good pads with the swift fx!
