DIY nasal pillow headgear?
DIY nasal pillow headgear?
I hope someone can help. My husband left for a weekend trip, and has his travel CPAP, but forgot to take his headgear, He uses the nasal pillow kind. He's helping teach a wilderness first aid class, so actually has some possibly useful supplies, like CPR masks. He can probably find a Walmart or pharmacy, but probably not a DME store. Anybody have any suggestions?

I would suggest the hair care aisle, with needle, thread, and scissors from the first aid kit.
Stretchy headbands abound, but he needs to be comfy in girly hues.

If he has any surgical tubing or a rubber tourniquet he might be able to tie it on, depending on the attachment.

Thanks for the suggestions! He ended up using the CPR mask and bought a foot pump at WM to get the hose, and some duct tape. He reports waking up a lot, but his cabin mates say that he didn't snore, so it was at least partially successful. Maybe he will be tired enough to sleep soundly tonight, and then drive home safely tomorrow.

This is not an easy thing to do.chandcar wrote:I hope someone can help. My husband left for a weekend trip, and has his travel CPAP, but forgot to take his headgear, He uses the nasal pillow kind. One VERY BIG CONCERN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lossy mask vent. You MUST have an air leak (vent) near the nose or mouth. Otherwise you re-breath the air you already breathed and suffocate!
If you have a computer and a data capable machine you can calibrate and make it very close to the mask you use. If not you need to determine another way.

I hope you are right. If it is just the straps then some string and elasic (perhaps with part of a chopstick to hold in the stays) will get the job done. The Latinist wrote:Wait…he left his mask, too?
But trying to replace the nose pillows themselves... Real safety issues.

Yeah, really. I hadn't even considered that she was talking about improvising a mask. That's crazy.Todzo wrote:I hope you are right. … But trying to replace the nose pillows themselves... Real safety issues.
