Resmed (Dishwasher Safe) h5i Heated Humidifier

Post by Ms. OwLMooN » Sat Jun 21, 2014 5:03 pm

I ordered a Resmed h5i Heated Humidifier that can be put in the dishwasher and was wondering if I could simply just use it straight out of the box instead of washing it the first time? Also if I do put it in the dishwasher, can I take it right out of the dishwasher and use it right away without letting it dry out completely overnight?

Just wash it by hand - never use anything like that straight out of the box.

just to be clear, (since it seems like it's needed in this case) you *MUST NOT* put the H5i heated humidifier in the dishwasher....

you can disassemble the cleanable CHAMBER and put that in the dishwasher, should you desire, just dry the outside off with a towel and use it.

Nice catch!
I'd hate to imagine anyone that "slow", but we see them out there all the time.

thanks chunky, I've learned to never overestimate human intelligence, especially when it's sleep deprived

something about the phrasing the OP used just worried me.

Only a DME would be dumb enough to do that.

Actually, I could see someone doing that. A newbie, someone who isn't a geek. Sometimes we get so used to the stuff we know that we forget what is and isn't obvious to the new user.

"Well, it comes off from the part with the power plug. I guess that's so you can run it through the dishwasher. My son said it's OK to wash the humidifier, so it must be true."

well, technically you could wash the whole humidifier... though I'd advise not using the normal dishwasher soap, because it could be corrosive to the electronics, the problem would be getting it good and dry before powering it up again

plain water won't hurt most electronics, in fact, distilled, or deionized, water is an insulator.

it's the impurities in water that allow it to conduct electricity, and when you've got water and electricity, then you get very rapid corrosion on the delicate electrical traces...

my oft mentioned friend with the congestive heart failure dropped my 80$ CMS50E oximeter in a glass of water (accidentially, he said) and then didn't tell me about it until much later by that time, the electrolysis had completely eaten away one of the contacts on one of the capacitors... after cleaning it up, and replacing the tiny little capacitor, I was able to sort of make it work, but the display kept flickering in and out I ended up getting a CMS50I to replace it, much harder to drop in a glass of water.

"LOOK!" "Yes," I am a "Newbie," "Yes," I did NOT explain myself clearly! When I mentioned the Heated Humidifier, I was referring to the "Cleanable Chamber!" So, clearly I made a Mistake, with wording! I didn't think that I would get such a negative response from "some," of you on here, for simply making a "Typing," Error."

I would like to Thank the ones on here that have responded to my questions in a Civil Manner, "Much Appreciated," " Thank You ! "

As someone who has done a lot of telephone support I can assure you that the extra information the others provided is not an insult to you. The number of times I have asked "Did you plug it in? Did you turn it on?" and got the answer "Oh, oh umm no, Thank you goodbye" are too numerable to count.

My friend put her supposedly dishwasher-safe humidifier chamber in her dishwasher and it came out cracked. The company she dealt with did not want to replace it, so she ended up having to buy a new one which she now hand washes.

I have two "dishwasher safe" S9 water tanks. I wash one every week in my dishwasher with scalding hot water, and the dishwasher's "sanitize" cycle that heats the water to ? degrees. Not a sign of problems in a couple of years.

Be sure you really have the "dishwasher safe" tank. ResMed redesigned the "standard" tank some time back and a number of people are confused about which one is which. The dishwasher safe tank has a metal base, a plastic snap thing that goes around that, a clear plastic top, and a clear baffle plate between the two that contains the gasket. The standard tank doesn't have the intermediate baffle plate thing. I think the standard tank has a yellow gasket and the dishwasher safe one has a black or blue gasket. The standard tank says "distilled water only" on the top in the depression where you add water.
