the best cpap machine on the market

can anybody please tell me what the best cpap on the market is at the moment i am using respironics auto set but i don't know if this is the best one on the market i would be interested to hear people's opinion throuhout the world

ResMed and Respironics are the two main brands. Let's call Respironics a Ford and ResMed a Chevy. I'm a Chevy guy.

It boils down to preference. Everybody is different. Your choice.

"best" is highly dependent on your specific needs. Autoset is the top of the line resmed single level machine... If it works for you why would you care if it's "the best"?

Plus "throughout the world" is a bit meaningless, because depending on where you live, only certain machines will be available to you to work with. If you buy a machine from Poland, you could have trouble finding anyone to deal with problems, or getting replacement parts, or who knows?

The best CPAP machine is one that is available to you, gives appropriate therapy that meets your needs, is one you will use, and is maintainable where you live.

The Respironics machine you have is an excellent machine and likely meets the above criteria.

BTW, autoset is a designation used by ResMed.

As you can see from the information at the bottom of each of our posts, we all have different machines. My DME issued me a ResMed first time around. Now they deal solely with Respironics.

There is no "best," only "adequate..."

I agree with previous posts: the "best" for you is the one you use every night, brings your apnea into control, allows your brain to be oxygenated all night and helps you wake up refreshed and ready for a new day. I also have the opinion that sometimes the machines get a bad rap because the settings are not right for an individual, or, more likely, the mask is not right. Thankfully, I got a good quality machine, a great support team of DME and sleep doc, and was able to try five different masks before I settled on my "best."

Main issue: DON'T GIVE UP!

The best xPAP machine is the cheapest machine available out there that treats your SDB condition effectively, period. Believe it or not, that can be an extremely basic, fixed CPAP machine. Or you may need a complicated and expensive VPAP machine which is pretty much a respirator. You definitely have bigger problems to worry about at that point than a machine's bells and whistles.

The craziness comes in when insurance gets involved and pays the same amount for a Cadillac machine, versus a bargain machine. Then, guess what, everyone demands the Cadillac machine. People paying cash are usually more discerning.

And guess what else -- people with Brand X machines generally like Brand X machines and say they are 'the best' and people with Brand Y machines say they are 'the best'. That's because almost NO DME will allow you to test drive a CPAP before buying it. Generally you use it, you own it. Only after 5 years can you get another, under most insurance plans.

Ultimately, if you trust your doctor, discuss your concerns and hopefully you both can come to an agreement about what would be the "best" machine for you.

Most people on here do agree, at minimum, that one should ideally at least get a machine that 'stores data' more than basic hours of use. So that way, even if you get a basic CPAP machine, your doctor can detect if you are still having problems and need your pressures adjusted. The cost premium for a 'data capable machine' over a non-data machine is shrinking with each year.

Other features like heated hoses, and color screens, and leak alarms, etc., are really issues of personal preference. And at the end of the day, each of these machines has really severe, nagging omissions. They all seriously suck in some way or another.

So your question has no good answer.

There is no Respironics Auto set. There is a Respironics Auto and a ResMed AutoSet. What does it say on the top of your CPAP machine? Check on cpap.com and see if you can find one that looks like yours.

If you have the latest model, these two are the top choices in my opinion if you need a regular CPAP. The Philips Respironics Auto or the ResMed S9 AutoSet (Not the S9 Escape Auto) are roughly equal.

Howdy, I've been scoping out the forums here...and thought I'd answer your post. Like the folks said above it's hard to say "the best", because it's all about what works for you and what your medical store has to offer.

If you want to employ American's and support a USA built product, check out Devilbiss healthcare "intellipap". They've been around like 125 year and have the best warranty in the market. They also have some of the best comfort features and take up the least amount of space on the night stand. Like I said the only one truly made in the USA.

My backup is a DeVillBiss Intellipap.
It was my vacation machine until I realized how much more I like the data from my AutoSet.
--therapy is still excellent, so maybe I will give my Intellipap to my son.

The intellipap requires an optional added cost module if you want to see your treatment data. This card is built in on the PRS1 and S9 machines. I think the data collection on the Intellipap is not as good as the S9 and PRS1 machines.
