Had a friend laying on his sofa one hot evening and he looked up and saw a skunk inside the doorway. Said he looked over and the dog saw him about the same time. Took about 40 cans of tomato juice to clean the dog and carpets....I told him, about 40 more might make a difference.

Glad to see you feeling better!
I knew a lady that had one come in through her pet door. It made a home in her closet. This is why I would never have a pet door.

Been away for the past weekend and just now catching up on the forum. Stormy, you've been through the wringer, but I'm very glad to hear that you're doing better, and three cheers for everyone who urged you to get immediate medical attention. Hope your recovery continues without any hitches (or any more clots).

We learned something the hard way this summer--how to deskunk a dog that's much easier and less messy than tomato juice.

You make a mixture of Dawn dish soap, baking soda, and peroxide. It really does work. Unfortunately, during the time I was running to the grocery store to buy the peroxide, my husband let the dog run around in the house, rubbing on everything! But we sprinkled non washable surfaces (like our couch) with baking soda and vacuumed it up--that worked.

Stormy, you sound SO much better. So happy to hear that!

Mythbusters had an episode on that and I tried to convince my daughter to use that instead of tomato juice but she wouldn't hear me. She did insist the dog smelled less but it was only her nose had gotten numb, if you walked in the door there was an overwhelming scent of skunk.

Luckily here in Edmonton there are no skunks - just rabbits, coyotes and bob cats.

I'm late back to the party, but so glad to hear prayers were answered and that you are doing well. Stormy! Since you are already doing hair again, sounds like you won't be getting bored! But, take it easy!

It breaks my heart but I won't be going back to work. I can't get the epidural shots now because of having to stay on the blood thinner. I am really doing good now except for the back pain. Living with the back pain isn't easy but at least I will live with it. I just hope I don't get cranky and hateful.

Stormy, back pain is miserable. I wrenched mine 2 weeks ago. sometimes it reaches out and grabs me doing the most simple things. Hope you find a way to manage it.

If there is any tomato juice left over, you can always pour some bloody Marys. That will help with any residual odors. Enough drinks and you wont smell a thing.

I am so sorry about the trade off between blood thinners and epidurals. After my DVT, I was on the thinners for about 9 months, is there any chance you can resume the back pain treatments later?

Best of luck to you,
maureen

God Bless Stormy my mom suffered for years with chronic back pain (T7) stenosis. She suffered through the epiderals & once lost all control of function from waist down for an hour or so. she finally went to a pain patch that helped her cope. she lived to 92 & succumbed because of a fall . broke hip & pelvis

I just reread all of this thread over again and I am absolutely overwhelmed. I love all of you so much and I am so grateful for the advice prayers and support. I never told any of my friends about this until I was back home and on the mend. I don't usually like any fuss but you all really were wonderful to me through all of this.

My doctor says I will probably always have to be on the blood thinner and the oxygen. I thought at first that it was temporary but I guess I misunderstood due to wishful thinking. I also found out I have COPD. A nurse comes to check on me here at home and she is very sweet.

My poor sweet husband had to go move my things out of my little shop. I told him what to bring home and what to leave. He didn't listen to a thing I said. Now I need to get him to take back a lot of beauty supplies that the new hairstylist may be able to use.

I am very blessed.
