Advil PM long term solution?

Post by lorenadam » Mon Oct 09, 2017 8:00 am

while some responses to my last post have discounted the relevance of AHI I have found that when my AHI spikes to 25 or so I feel terrible and when it is 5 or under I feel great, just found that by taking one Advil PM I had a great night with AHI under 5, QUESTION: can Advil PM be a long-term solution?

Long-term use of Ibuprofen is not a good idea. The sleep-inducing ingredient is diphenhydramine. You can get this OTC as a sleep aid or as a generic allergy relief med. I would try that and see if it helps.

Is there anything else OTC that seems to be effective? I have taken up to 100mg of benadryl with zero effect.

I don't know. I would ask a local pharmacist. Nyquil works for me because there a slug of alcohol in there as well as ibuprofen and diphenhydramine.

If pain is preventing sleep, treat the pain.
If anxiety is keeping you awake, get an RX for that--to take only when needed,
and at the smallest dose that works.
Also accept the fact that not everyone's "normal" is sleeping straight through the night.
My most effective sleep inducer is my Airsense. Mask up--zonk out.

LOL, it's not quite that quick for me, but that part isn't the problem - it's all the disturbances throughout the night. Some from leaks maybe, some from???

Go to a nutrition store and get some ZMA. No long term issues.

Don't expect much from ZMA.
Most supporting data is suspicious. (Conflict of interest)
Read the webMD article about it, especually skip down to the side effects.
"Increased incidence of prostate cancer" was enough--the rest is ugly enough, but that stood out.

My thoughts as well. So much of that stuff for body builders is SOOOO bad for you.

Look up Trazadone. It's a good prescription sleep aid.

i have been on very long term use of ibuprofen
used to be 800mg 3x a day
3200mg a day is the max safe dosage and i was under that

over the years it has come down to 200 2x a day

and MY DOCTOR IS HAPPY WITH MY USING IT
never mentioned any problems

When you say "spikes to 25", is that the average for one night?

The active ingredient in Advil is ibuprofen. Long-term use may lead to heart problems, including heart attack, and stomach bleeding or perfereation.

I am not a MD, but I did work for a few years as a pharmacology researcher.

You are aware that the active ingredient in Advil is ibuprofen aren't you xxyzx? Looks like this is a significant error to me, or is it a typo?
