Where to Put Your CPAP

Post by gabbiesjabo » Fri Mar 12, 2010 3:27 pm

Got some information to share. I have seen this talk forum before but have never posted anything. I noticed some folks asking about where to put their cpap machine. My husband's used to sit on the nightstand and his hose would hang over the headboard. During the day he would lay his hose across the bed or over the headboard. (I have a girlfriend who says her husband hangs his hose over the lampshade!) It drove me crazy. He didn't like it because anyone who passed by our room would think an old sick person slept there. But this cabinet is made specifically for cpap machines. It could be used for other respiratory machines I suppose, but it is called a cpap nightstand. I love it for cosmetic reasons, my husband (the cpap user) loves it because no one sees his machine anymore. It has a drop down hinged front door-that's where the machine goes. It has slots on both sides where the hose comes out and moves real easy. It also has a swing open door on the bottom where you can store the gallon of water, extra masks, etc. There is a hole in the back for the electric cord to go through and plug into behind it. Everything is so HIDDEN. I love it!! My husband loves it!! You can go to ergodevices. It's right there on the front page. At least it still was yesterday when I looked it up again. Happy breathing!

Doesn't look like the best quality wood. Especially not for that enormous amount of money.

I think that, if I wanted something like this, it'd be a lot cheaper (and prettier) to just have built. My Dad could make one in a heartbeat that'd be a lot better quality and price.

Afraid this one doesn't fly with me. Sorry!

Silly me--I opened tis expecting a useful comment from someone about what positions work well when placing a CPAP; instead it was this spam. Hmm. Couldn't I just drill a hole in the side of a nicer-looking nightstand for the hose and a hole in the back for the power cord and get a much better looking piece of furniture for a lot less money? Or just repurpose a TV or stereo stand, which would already have openings for cords in the back?

I'm perfectly happy having my CPAP on top of the nightstand, myself.

I have put mine in the top drawer of my nightstand. I cut a hole in the back for the power cord. In the morning everything goes back in the drawer out of sight. It will also stay cleaner in here as it is enclosed 16 hours per day. I just open the drawer at night, hookup and go to sleep.

Beg your pardon, my husband is not some "sick old person" and his machine looks like any other equipment one keeps on his nightstand such as answering machine, clock radio, etc. His hose is covered in a beautiful shade of burgundy which matches our decor and is unnoticeable tucked behind the pillows during the day. I love having the cpap right where it is.

I PROUDLY display my CPAP s8 machine on my lovely nightstand. I think that $449 is extremely expensive. My fleece hose cover is very cheerful in blue with stars.

Our bedrooms are a very personal space, and if a friend or relative is in my bedroom, it must mean that they know me pretty well and so they won't be at all surprised to see the cpap sitting on the night stand.

As to someone thinking that we are all old farts just because we have a piece or two of medical equipment, well, who cares? We are merely taking care of our health and obviously, you don't have to be old to use CPAP just the same way you don't have to be "old" to wear glasses.

So, let's save our money and use it for better things...I can't wait to return to the Surflite Theatre in Beach Haven for the summer season.

Warmly,

Jersey Girl

I have my CPAP on a glass nightstand. It doesn't bother me or any body else in the house. So why buy an expensive piece of furniture?

DoriC, Well said! I am not a sick old person either and I think my machine balances out our bedroom quite nicely. My hubby has the clock radio and the weather alert radio on his nightstand so I feel that my machine balances out the technology in the room

This reminds me of the super fancy wooden furniture stands that are really litter boxes. Who really wants to have their litter box in the bedroom or living room anyway? If it is in an out of the way place, it really doesn't need to be that fancy and $1000

I'm in agreement with DoriC.....we are not "sick old people" and only those who are uninformed would draw that conclusion when looking into ones bedroom and seeing a CPAP machine. I have a nice, cozy, fleece hose cover my mom made for me and I hang the hose over the bed post. The machine itself is hidden behind the open, wrought iron headboard because its the most convenient place since the nightstand is already overcrowded. This condition can be expensive enough....an expensive cabinet to hide everything is not an option for most of us.
