Diet: Eat Fat!

Post by Sheffey » Sat Mar 16, 2013 7:04 am

Well, make you own decisions, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading this article while eating my usual breakfast - two extra large eggs over easy in butter.

Enjoy!
the ninth circle of food hell to which the fat-phobic ninnies have consigned us: egg-white omelets. Is life worth prolonging for a few (alleged) extra months if said life has been spent enduring the repellent slabs of gluey, pasty albumen that so many self-congratulatory "health conscious" types consider to be a sign of their sanity?
The article is very good - http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142 ... 58600.html

Split shank bone marrow. Yum!!!!!!

My breakfast ... lb of bacon roasted in oven served w/ fresh medium avocado (sliced) and a tomato, onion, jalapeno pepper, and cilantro relish (pico de gallo).

Keeps me satisfied til dinner this evening.

Ahhhhh.....fat coffee! I'm never hungry in the mornings, and my 2 cups of fat coffee are perfect and keep me going until late in the afternoon. Fat coffee = a cup of coffee with some MCT oil, coconut oil, and Kerrygold butter with a splash of heavy cream.

BTW, I've also lost over 80 lbs. since January of 2012. Eating fat does NOT make you fat, unless you happen to eat lots of sugars/carbs with it.

Ditto what Doc and DreamStalker said. I'm down 100lbs eating fat but low carbs. My hbA1c was 4.9 when I went to the Doctor's office this last Tuesday. Pretty good for a type 2 diabetic. If you are type 2 PLEASE don't follow the American Diabetes Assoc. diet recommendations....they will kill you.

Very interesting. You are surely onto something there.

So I can go back to eating one-pound steaks? (beef) Just skip the dessert?

Yes and skip the fries too and the roll on the side. Just a green salad and steak and you are good to go.

Just a green salad
The guy in the article (WSJ) was not complimentary to salads. I feel the same - a lot of junk on stuff that grows in the field and it can be hard to rinse off.

As long as the junk is not pesticides or herbicides what doesn't wash off is probably beneficial to your immune system. Otherwise eat cooked vegies with a nice dab of real butter.

He misses the point.

"Eating low fat food doesn’t mean we should give up fat entirely, but we do need to educate ourselves about which fats should ideally be avoided and which ones are more heart-healthy. Let’s be clear: we need fat in our diet. As the most concentrated source of calories (nine calories per gram of fat compared with four calories per gram for protein and carbohydrates), it helps supply energy. Fat provides linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid for growth, healthy skin and metabolism. It also helps absorb fat-soluble vitamins (A,D,E and K). And, face it, fat adds flavor and is satisfying, making us feel fuller, keeping hunger at bay.

"Although all fats have the same amount of calories, some are more harmful than others: saturated fats and trans fats in particular."

His article throws the baby out with the bathwater! It's like those gun people who think that the government is trying to ban ALL guns. Really!

I just read this on the side of a bag of finely ground flax bran meal:
" . . . use as an egg replacer"
Huh?

yes, if you have an egg allergy or are a vegan flax meal in a little water will do the same thing as eggs in your baking.

I agree with much that Ron Rosenbaum has to say, but obviously he's been in a state of suspended animation for the last 15 years. How can he say anything like "The hysterical crusade against fat has become a veritable witch hunt"? The examples he opens with, like the Bloomberg ban on giant sugary drinks, aren't about fat. I don't understand how he can imagine himself as a brave iconoclast shouting down the fat free establishment. What he says is practically conventional wisdom these days.

The article was NOT about healthy eating/diet.

It was more of a rebellious lashing out against the dietary fat phobes, ""clothed in sanctity as an obesity-prevention crusade".

Take his closing sentence for example ...
I'll have my cakes and ale with a helping of roast goose, if you please.

Anyway -

The bad fats are the man-made fats ... trans-fats and refined vegetable/seed oils. They are the fats that are most easily oxidized and cause chronic inflammation when consumed.

Natural saturated fats (animal, coconut, and palm) are least likely to oxidize and are the healthiest to consume (excluding trans-fats).

The US government is attempting to take ALL guns from US citizens ... they have to because a fascist totalitarian government and an armed population is not compatible.

And the banks cannot force the population to continually bail them out unless they transform the government into a fascist totalitarian government.

The people of Cyprus were just forced to bailout their banks again, yesterday. http://rt.com/business/cyprus-bailout-s ... otest-389/ ... the EU earlier this week passed a law requiring all EU countries to accept a bank bailout whether they want to or not -- hence the people of Cyprus will have their money stolen straight out of their bank accounts as their contribution to the bailout. And what can they do about it? Not much, they are not allowed to own semi-auto guns.

The US Federal Reserve is insolvent (and so are the 6 largest US banks) as it continues to print over $84 billion each month, indefinitely .... who do you think will have the responsibility to bail out the US banks? (hint: the freshly unarmed).
